(don't worry about the poor quality of the sample images displayed there; the actual image files are very high quality and look like the images seen on this site).
Giclee, commonly pronounced zhee-clay, is a
process for making digital image reproductions using
state-of-the-art ink jet printers to spray millions of droplets of
water-based ink onto fine archival art paper. These are not
properly considered "fine art prints", but they are beautiful and
richly colored reproductions of near-archival quality which can
be purchased at very reasonable prices.
When ordering, you'll have to select the paper type and size. You
can also put together a full frame package if you choose.
I recommend using either acid-free 100% cotton rag
Somerset Velvet or resin coated Premium Luster paper.
When printed on these papers, the
ink has a lightfastness rating of 37 or 48 years (for an unframed print
without any UV protection). The digital images being used to
make the reproduction have a resolution of about 300dpi when
printed at the recommended size listed with each image.
When ordering a mat, I think you'll get the best
results using Crescent Select 6-ply mat board. Standard glazing and
mounting boards are probably sufficient for most purposes.
For some of the images, I've provided recommendations for paper,
mat board color and frame.
Reproductions of the following works can now be ordered at prices
starting under $15.00. If you're interested in one which is
not shown here, let me know and I can probably make it available.
