Great Falls Park
from Bob Cantor's National Parks Photo Gallery
Great Falls Park was at one time officially called Great Falls National Park. It's still run by the National Park Service, but is now just Great Falls Park. There are two sections of the park, one each on the Virginia and Maryland side of the Potomac River. My Northern Virginia Dayhikes page has more information on visiting the park.

Virginia side
Great Falls as seen from one of the main overlooks. All of the overlooks on the Virginia side are an easy stroll from the parking area.
Another view of the Falls.
A fine display of fall colors upstream from the falls.
And still more fall colors, this time seen looking up-river from one of the main overlooks.
The falls on a misty morning.

Maryland side
The Billy Goat Trail is a moderately strenuous 4 mile loop through some of the finest scenery in the mid-Atlantic area.
